Year 2

What an amazing year we have had in Year 2! It has been a joy to watch each of you grow and thrive. From making new friends and exploring exciting subjects to diving into creative art projects and engaging science experiments, every moment has been filled with enthusiasm and discovery. Your hard work and curiosity have made this year truly special. As we head into the summer break, I hope you all have a lovely, restful time filled with fun and adventure. Remember to keep reading and exploring the world around you. We are looking forward to seeing you all in Year 3, ready for more exciting learning and new experiences!

Summer 2 - Well the children are back and already working hard preparing for Year 3. This week we just wanted to update you with some of the things that we completed before we had our half-term holiday. Our art project culminated in drawing our own self portraits, first by pencil before using paint and colours to portray our emotions. Many of them turned out great - can you recognise who the images are of? In science we used all of our knowledge around habitats to create bug hotels - we then went back a week later to see who had moved in. Some of the children are hoping for good feedback from their hotel guests. :)

Welcome back to the summer term. We have lots of exiting learning planned this half term and the children have already dived in. In art we are looking at expressionism and how we can use art to convey our feelings. While listening to different music (happy, sad, angry and calm) the children painted how they were feeling and used primary colours to make secondary colours. Look how beautiful their work looked.

Our school trip to Marsh Farm this half term was lots of fun. Not only did we get to see many different animals at different stages of their life cycles but also have lots of fun with our friends.

It was amazing to see all of the children dressed up to celebrate World Book Day. A big well done to Mankirt - 2W's winner.

Spring 1 has been lots of fun in Year Two as we have been learning all about The Great Fire of London. We were lucky enough to have an online workshop hosted by the National Archives in London and held our own Enrichment day in school. After creating our own Tudor houses, we re-enacted the fire to see how the fire spread. During the afternoon, we then wrote and performed our very own news reports - we hope that you are as impressed with them as we were.

December - How amazing were all the children in their Christmas play! All of the children worked really hard to remember their lines and all of the song. We were all very proud of them as we know you were! In English, we have finished writing our stories about the Man on the Moon and the children wrote some creative alternate endings. In maths, we have been learning about 2D and 3D shapes, looking at their properties and being able to name them. We are all sad to have finished learning about Brazil and still have our fingers crossed for a trip there soon. :) This week the children have been making Christmas wrapping paper in art. They were very excited to wrap up their DT projects from Autumn 1 (the pouches) and take them home as Christmas presents. After a fun filled term we are all ready for a break; we hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Year Two had a fabulous day on their Brazilian Enrichment day. We learnt Portuguese, made and tried Brazilian foods (A big thank you to Anna FDA's family who sent in some traditional snacks for us to try!) made different human and physical features and also learnt how to salsa dance.

Over the last two weeks, the children have been learning the story of ‘The Greedy Fox’ in English. They have immersed themselves into the story. They then innovate the story and then spent last week writing their new versions. Why don’t you ask your child to perform their story for you at home? We have started a new topic in Geography and begun learning about Brazil, locating the country on a world map. The children are looking forward to their Brazil day on the 17th of November. In Art, the children have been exploring patterns. They have completed repeated patterns and made their own. This has been great practise for when they design and make their own Christmas wrapping paper in a few weeks.

We have had a great half term and have learnt lots. Here are just a few photos that show some of the activities we have taken part in. During 'Our Future Selves Day' we were lucky to hear about different jobs. In science we have been testing materials and even which material would make a good teabag. In maths we decided how to sort different objects in data week: 2D and 3D shapes, Odd and even numbers, Round coins and not round coins.

Year Two Parent Meeting -22.9.23

What an exciting start we have had to this academic year! In maths we have been learning about place value and addition, in English we have been re-writing the story of Little Red Riding Hood with a twist (Let's just say that the wolf is not the bad guy!) and in history we have been learning about Great Britain's Monarchy. We had a fabulous trip to London, to try and see the King but unfortunately he was not home. Apart from all of the traffic on the way home we had a fun but informative day. More photos to follow.

Westminster Abbey and Buckingham Palace Trip

This term we have enjoyed lots of our learning but have especially enjoyed the extracurricular activities. First, we loved dressing up for the Kings Coronation and then had the best day on our Science Day. The children loved moving around the school and especially loved seeing their teachers get soaked and slimed in the assembly.

We are currently planning pizzas that we will be making in school. This week we were trying different combinations of food groups to plan our toppings. Stay tuned for delicious pizzas coming soon.

This half term we have had lots of fun investigating habitats. We created an experiment to see what conditions woodlice prefer.

We took part in a 3D fossil workshop:

In English we have been recreating the story of The Highway Rat. What amazing authors the children have become this year.

Finally, the children worked super hard when completing their SATs papers. Well are extremely proud of all of them.
